In 2009, I was invited to write a total of  four stories for Horticulture magazine on gardens that I had the opportunity to photograph. These include  gardens from Middleburg, Virginia,   Colorado Springs , Santa Fe  and  Tucson, Arizona.

The first of these four,  about Jim and Ella Lamphear’s garden in Colorado Springs, is  set for the May 2010 issue.

Last summer, I was invited to write and photograph a story on motorcycle touring  in New Mexico for New Mexico Magazine. It was an opportunity to share my enthusiasm for the landscape and to reflect on my personal experience of  living  here for the last 28 years. The story is slated to appear in the May issue.

In the 1950’s, between 12,000 and 50,000 people a year came to see the Douglas Chandor garden in Weatherford, Texas, and it was deemed “One of the ten most beautiful one-man gardens in the world,” by author Carroll C. Caulkins in his 1969 book Great Gardens of America.

Read Charles’ article about the rebirth of this American classic the current (April 2009) issue of Horticulture magazine.
